We're are pleased to announce that the new Quietstone website is now live.

First of all a very happy new year to one and all. As usual Silkmoth had a complete shut down over Christmas so we're all refreshed and ready for another exciting year.
We thought we'd start the year with a few predictions. Firstly, some things we expect to see more of:
As everything speeds up, the viability of combining various real-time data sources into one increases. We've already built websites that combine services from multiple providers into a single coherent interface. We expect to be building more of these.
In October 2010 the iTunes App Store sailed past the 7 billion download mark. In 2011 we expect business to well and truly jump on this bandwagon and to start thinking about innovative ways of reaching their customers or providing connectivity and functionality to the mobile workforce.
The web is moving away from the desktop to the handheld device. How many times have you sat in front of the TV whilst surfing on your phone? You'll be doing more of that in 2011.
We're due an upgrade on the technology we use to present the web and 2011 will be the year of widespread adoption of HTML5 and CSS3. As well as updates for native in-browser video support we also see a shift towards the semantic web which will have a big impact on search engine optimisation.
Inevitably!
And some things we expect to see less of:
As far as browsers go IE6 is well past its sell-by date. Building new sites to support old technology is holding everybody back and hopefully IE6, bt the end of the year, will be dead and gone.
It's not enough these days to build a simple brochure website to promote your business. Have a look at what your competitors are doing. How are they embracing the web to deliver better customer service?
With HTML5 and the growing popularity of devices that do not support it we're seeing the beginning of the end for Flash. You can probably include Silverlight in that too!
We have an ongoing programme that costs tens of thousands of pounds installing and replacing our web server hardware on a three year cycle. With the boom in Cloud based hosting the way forward is to move away from hardware and simply buy capacity. We'll let somebody else worry about ampage, heat and disk space!
More and more software is now being run as an online service (on the Cloud). Even the MS Office suite can be run through your browser on a pay as you go service. We'll be getting more used to this in 2011
