Beaumanor site launched

Silkmoth has just launched www.beaumanor.com. This site is designed to deliver account ordering facilities for thousands of fluid and hydraulic fittings.

There are several features of this site that make it interesting. Firstly, it is integrated into the client's Sage accounting, sales order processing and stock system. The site allows Beaumanor's customers to review invoices, see statements and interrogate the status of order online through this website.

In addition, the site is designed to be used in conjunction with a paper catalogue. Each item on the site (and there are a seriously large number of them) is cross-referenced to the paper catalogue for an ideal customer experience.

Silkmoth join the Kentico Partner Programme

We don't do many press releases but here's one:

30 October 2009: Macclesfield based web development company Silkmoth have joined the Kentico Partner Programme. In doing so Silkmoth are committed to building client's web solutions on Kentico's CMS for .NET platform.

The Kentico platform provides WYSIWYG editing, workflow, multilingual support, full-text search, on-line forms, eCommerce, image and media libraries, forums, blogs, polls and a whole host of other functionality.

In joining the Kentico Partner Programme Silkmoth will keep up to data with Kentico technology while feeding its own experience and knowledge of the UK web design market into the Kentico development effort.

Carl Dean, Silkmoth's Technical Director said, "using Kentico as our web platform allows us to concentrate on delivering great websites that deliver real value to our customers."

About Silkmoth

Silkmoth (www.silkmoth.com) believe the best test of a web development company is to ask them how well they've managed to enhance their clients' businesses. That's our focus - getting a deep understanding of our clients and then making the web produce tangible results for them.

If you're not sure what the web could do for you, you'll enjoy talking to us. We won't confuse you with jargon. We'll talk business first, and technology second.

We've developed websites for companies all around the UK. From small companies to multinationals, our technical knowhow makes their websites work really well. And we've done it for rather a long time - almost since the Internet began. Experience matters.

About Kentico

Kentico Software (www.kentico.com) helps clients create professional Web sites, online stores, community sites and intranets using Kentico CMS for ASP.NET. It's committed to deliver a full-featured, enterprise-class, stable and scalable Web Content Management solution on the Microsoft .NET platform. Getting Ready for Silkmoth Day 2009

Last year's Silkmoth Day was so well received, that we had no choice – we had to do it again.

Silkmoth Day 2009 will be at Stanneylands hotel in Wilmslow (directions can be found here) on 17 November. All our customers and design partners have been invited.

Reacting to feedback after last year's event, and what customers have been saying to us recently, we've chosen a different format this year.

The emphasis is on bringing people up to speed with what's possible with web technology in 2009 - it's amazing how things have moved on in just one year.

The whole Silkmoth team will be involved in presenting sessions on:

  • Search Engine Optimisation
  • E-mail Marketing
  • Pay-per-click Advertising
  • Social Media
Some customer projects will be featured, and the other change to the format this year is that there's more time for people to network and learn from each other.

Silkmoth Day runs from 09:30 to 14:30, with a buffet lunch being served from 13:00.

If you haven't already replied to your invitation, please do – we're going to make it as valuable a day as we can.

Silkmoth Launch New Website

At last we've launched our new website. It's been a long time coming but we're really pleased with the way it's turned out.

New Design

New Silkmoth HomepageThe design of the new website was carried out by our good friends at Axon Garside. The brief was quite simple; we keep the logo but apart from that anything goes.

We're really pleased with what they've delivered and having built a few websites to their designs now we have a great understanding between us of what does and doesn't work not only online, but also within the confines of a content management system.

New Portfolio

You'll see some radical changes to our portfolio of customer's websites. We've included lots more detail for each webite and have tagged each one so that you can quickly look at similar websites.

The portfolio is still growing as we add all of our websites. It's a bit time consuming but well worth the effort.

New Features

Twitter BirdThe first thing you'll probably notice is that the site is wired up to show our latest Tweet from Twitter. We're going to be using Twitter to keep you informed as to what's going on with Silkmoth and the web at large. So if you're not already following us make sure you do.

Another obvious difference is this integrated blog. Previously we had news items on our website with Carl's blog (FloatingDivs) hosted on Blogger. We've decided to merge the two as it didn't really make sense to be saying the same thing in different places. We also believe that website visitors are more relaxed with the tone of postings on websites these days so it makes sense to host the blog on our main site.

On the right hand side of this page you'll see a tag cloud. Each page on the Silkmoth site has been tagged with relevant keywords. If you click on any of the links in the tag cloud the site will list all pages that include that tag. The bigger the link in the tag cloud the more references there are to that tag in the website.

It's quite simple yet very powerful. No surprises that the biggest tags are content management and ecommerce. That's our bread and butter!

We also like the Featured Services slider on the home page. This is a simple but effective slide show that adds a bit of movement and some more interest to a page without being overbearing. This is just one of the many features offered by our new Content Management System, Kentico.

New Content Management System

In July we decided to mothball Wirenet and move to a new CMS platform, Kentico. It was a big decision for us but three months on and with a number of websites under our Kentico belt now, we're convinced it was the right decision. We'll still be supporting Wirenet for the forseeable future but all new work will be built on the new platform.

Kentico gives us lots of new functionality, everything from search engine friendly URLs to embedded YouTube movies. But most importantly, it allows us to get on with the business of delivering the best website for our customers rather than focusing on developing the platform.

What do you Think?

Let us know what you think of the new site by adding your comments below. We'd love to hear your ideas and criticisms if you have any.
