Silkmoth has just launched its latest website www.tyre-shopper.co.uk. The site is simplicity itself. The customer simply types in their car registration number and a selection of tyres suitable for their vehicle appears on the screen. Prices range from £25 to £400+ depending on the make and model of the car.
Most people have got no idea what their tyre sizes are or indeed how to read them. In order to make buying a tyre simple even for the most automotively challenged person, Silkmoth had to combine a number of different technologies. The car registration details of over 95% of cars have been mapped to a range of tyres to fit that particular make and model of car. The tyres are listed in price order so there is something to suit every budget.
Carl Dean, Technical Director at Silkmoth said:
"Information provided by the DVLA and tyre companies has been brought together for the first time. Customers can be confident that they are choosing the correct tyres at best value prices."
The innovative technology that has revolutionised tyre buying does not stop there. Once the customer has decided which type of tyre they would like to buy, they can select from a choice of local fitting centres. They pay for both the tyres and fitting securely online and then pop round to a fitting station of their choice at a time to suit themselves.
When a customer checks out they are sent an email confirmation that not only contains a summary of their order but also a route map and directions together with a street-level map of the fitting centre.
Although the site has only been up and running for 6 weeks, there have already been thousands of visitors. The tyre company who hired Silkmoth to do the work are confident that their business will increase considerably. It is predicted that the simplicity of the site will encourage customers who have not traditionally got involved with car maintenance.
